Straight 6 vs V8

Im looking for a beater truck, Ive been looking at older f-150's 88-94ish
standard cabs. But im not sure if i should get the 300 straight 6 or the 302 v8?

Whats your guys opinion if you had a choice?
v8, straight 6, 5 spd, auto?

depends on preference, i have/had all combinations and the 5spds are more fun to drive, powerwise (4.9 to 5.0) the 5 liter has a little more power up to p the 4.9 has torque in the low end, 4.9 is bulletproof (literally a guy shot mine but thats another story) and if you want an intersting sound put true dual exaust on a 4.9 (two manifolds) with a 5 spd its fun and ****ing loud

300 straight 6 and a 5 speed. Bullet proof combo... No pun intended.
