98 f-150 4x4 problems

hey guys. im trying to diagnose whats going on with my brothers truck. its a 98 f-150 with the 5.4L. the fourwheel drive selecter is the stick on the floor. when you try to put it in four wheel...she doesnt work. i traced the vaccuum hoses from the front diff all the way up to the firewall...everything seems to be connected tight with no cracks. anything else you guys think i should check? thanks!

Need a little more to go on than "she doesn't work". Does the transfercase engage but the front axle doesn't engage? If so, I'm thinking the shift fork in the front axle is probably bad. The tabs on the fork that fit in the shift collar tend to wear and break off. If so the front axle assembly needs to come out to be repaired. Hope this helps.

sorry to be vague....idk about the transfercase...i will have to look into it more. i was initially thinking maybe it was just a vaccuum leak...
