Looking at a 97 gas

Hey yall. My dads best friends dad has a beautiful low mileage 4x4 F250 with the 460 for sale cheap. It is in immaculate shape and I have driven it many times and I know that it runs great. The problem is that it gets horrible milege. But there is not one issue with it. We are going to go ahead and buy.

I had the wife sold on putting a Cummins in it tell she saw the estimated price tag (that was with no mods too).

What could I do to squeeze some MPG's out of the 460 till I can do a swap. What else should I look for?

Here she is

When I had my 97 I put on an air-raid intake and a Gibson exhaust and I got about 2 more mpg.

I had a 79 with a 351M and holley 4 bbl carb. Plenty of other mods. I got 8mpg babying it, and the worst tank I ever got was 4mpg lol. It rough on gassers.

Intake, exhaust, throttle body spacer should help some.

You probably would be better off just waiting till you get a cummins! That way you don't have to buy all that stuff for a gasser motor. I would just drive it the way it is and save your money for the cummins swap

I had a 93 and I got 8 MPG no matter what. It was a great truck and I loved it but surprisingly my diesel is cheaper even when diesel was $5 a gallon. I wouldn't even worry about trying to get mileage out of it because it's not really going to happen. If you do decided to get rid of the engine though I might be interested whenever you do it

Instead of a Cummins, why not find a wrecked OBS with a 7.3? It's not a cummins but you'd have diesel in for cheap.
