ammo shortage....

i heard an unconfirmed rumor that the reason supply is low is the manufacturers are retooling for serialization of rounds....

anyone heard anything about this?

just wondering.....please, try to keep it to solid facts rather than assumptions.

this is probably just a rumor too....just looking for any solid backing to it.

I highly doubt they are retooling. They have no interest in doing that just as we don't. As far as I know we don't even have the technology to do that yet

The states are even passing legislation telling the feds to kiss it and their rules don't apply, so that rumor doesn't add up.

They are NOT retooling for serial numbers. That has been pigeonholed for now. There were 1.5 billion rounds of ammo sold in Dec 2008. The plants just cannot keep up. Add that to a 3 billion round contract from DoD and it is a recipe for shortages and the law of supply and demand.

You know i was wondering if the states would try to override the feds stupid rules. I didn't know if they could do that or not, but hopefully they can overule all these bad laws about guns, ammo, and emissions. Living in MN we do a lot of hunting of all types, and our governor is a decent repub who supports guns, so hopefully he would work against these things.

Try to buy primers, this is the major reason for the shortage from what I understand. Several major manufactuers are having a hard time with the supply of primers.

All I know my Wal-mart has very little on it's shelves.
I could not .38's or .44's from them as they are out and when I asked when will they get any the just said your guess is as good as mine. They did have 3 boxes of 357's which I took

Mike, I ordered primers from Cabela's. Unlike CTD, or GunBrokers they will backorder. I was told 6-8 weeks, but at least I'm in line.

I heard they are going to place new regs on ammo and that one of them is that the primers can only last for a year then they go bad. They want to keep people from stockpiling ammo. Guns are not a deterrent to tyranny if they don't go bang.
