New Springfield 1911!!

Some months ago, I LUCKILY managed to get on the Springfield Armory Employee/Pro purchase plan. That plan allows me to buy 1 each of their 1911s , XDs,and rifles per calender year for personal use at a price well below dealer cost. I have been carrying a Kimber Pro CDPII for years, and decided to take advantage of Springfields offer. I ordered a Lightweight Champion Operator. I liked the features, especially the finish. The size and weight are very close to my Kimber.(Full size grip with 4inch barrel). What Ididnt like was the fact that none of their 1911s come with the front strap checkered(except the TRPs and TGOs) and I am a freak for front strap checkering. I talked with them, and their checkering is 20lpi. I have shot a TRP with that 20lpi checkering and it will chew your hands up. My Kimber has 30lpi. A little too close for me. I question Springfields custom shop about 25 lpi. No problem they say. BUT the mainspring housing will have 20, and the front will be 25. I ask them can they make me a matching mainspring housing so the front and back are 25 lpi, and they said yes. Well, after 90 days of waiting, it shows up today. I take it home, take it apart, put it back together(they already had it oiled) and went outside and shot the first 7 rds through it. I fell in love all over again!! LOL!! Think Im gonna like this piece!!

I was actually at Ellett Brothers Dealer Showcase with my wife(She orders guns and ammo for 11 stores). While she was talking with the Springfield sales rep, I was chatting with Rob, who at the time was over the Custom Shop. We talked about Concealed Carry some, and he asked me what I carried when I taught my CWP classes. I told him a Kimber. When he asked why, I told him about some of the features I like that were not available on Springfield 1911s. He signed me up for the program, told me he would take the gun into the custom shop and "tweak it", along with doing the 25 lpi checkering for me, if i would consider carrying it. Well, I considered it!! LOL!!
