Remington 870

I'm a bit out of my element here but someone offered me a Remington 870 as a trade towards the 122k mile E4OD/BW 1356 from my 95. The 870 is setup as a defender/police the catch is it was built from factory Remington parts so I don't know what that does to value.

I am still waiting for pics but from what I have been told it was built from a bare receiver, barrel is from the defender/police line, it has a police stock and it's never been fired.

I plan to keep the gun, an assault shotgun has been low on my list of wants for years now. Looking around I see prices from $200-1000. Does anyone know what it might be worth and anything I should ask or look at before committing?

Thanks, spent an hour looking earlier today but I'm still not having much luck figuring out what it's worth. I guess I need to track down what the individual parts are worth.

The 870 in the base model is worth maybe 500. If it has a full length tube and decked out maybe 700. And it better be built from factory remington parts because the 870 is a remington product. If a pump shotgun is worth it then go for it. But also remember the pumps are alot more reliable than the semi autos in a home defense situation.

That being said its also like a pickup. The more customized it is the salesman will say its worth less but then in turn sell it for more. Post pics and it will help us more but but for $500 there are better options out there. Just depends on how bad you want to get rid of your tranny

WHere i live you can get a black 870 super mag.....it takes 3 1/2" shells.... the others only go to 3. Probably closer to 400 bucks for it sometimes less if there is a sale going on.

Tactical smactical......my turkey gun is going to do the same thing, but not look as cool. I wouldnt take over 500 bucks for it, thats if its pimped out.

One question, since this guy "built" this gun but hasn't fired it are you sure it will fire? Or will it blow up in your face?

Here's the pics he sent me. From what I can tell it's just a plain black 870. I guess I need to find out if the receiver is a super mag, I think that's the one that takes 3 1/2" shells from what I have read.

The trans isn't a big deal to me, I haven't been vary proactive in getting rid of it but I do see this as someone helping me to clean out my garage in exchange for a shotgun. I also have an extra transfercase if someone wants to offer me a hand gun. lol

$500 for a base model 870 is absurd, but prices can vary a lot in different areas of the country. That's a $300 shotgun if he built it with base Express parts, probably about $400 if he used legitimate Police parts.
