He didn't steal it from the army. Said that a lot of the GI 1911's were junk, from typewriter companies. Didn't want to carry one all the way to the CBI theatre to find out it didn't work, so he bought a Colt while he was in San Francisco waiting to ship out. He paid the grand sum of $35 for it, which was a bit more money in 1943 than it is today.

Can't beat that quality. It still shoots perfectly. I learned how to field strip it when I was 10 years old. A trained monkey could service a 1911.

There is nothing wrong with the Rand which was Remington Rand typwriter company.

I have a COLT M1991 A1, I had the slide tighten to the frame, adjustable trigger, It's a tack-driver, Also have a pair of COLT OFFICERS, one has a special barrel bushing, the other has been MAGNA-PORT, a PARA-ORDNANCE P12 LDA & a PARA-ORDNANCE P14 and my last 1911 a INTERARMS SILVERCUP 45 (don't know much about this 45) but it a great shooter & accurate !!!
