Home Defense

Hey guys I just went to the gun store yesterday, and was looking at pumps for home defense, I was wondering what you guys use and what you recommend. I want to get a pump for right now, and then in a couple months once I get my pistol permit I'll get a .40 or .45 semi-auto for home protection.

Oh, I was looking at the Mossberg 500, but the guy said the Stueger(I think, said it was a Benelli company) had a shorter barrel, and was better suited for home defense.
Thanks.

Mossberg 500 with an 18.5" barrel and collapsible stock.

You can't go wrong with a scatter gun for home defense. Just point and squeeze... Just make sure you know where your family members are first!

The most important thing is that you like it. It needs to be something that feels good in your hands and you feel comfortable shooting. This is especially important in a high stress situation like home defense. Your not going to have time to figure out where the safety is and all that. That's why I like glocks for home defense. If there is a round in the chamber all you have to do is point and pull the trigger. I can assure you that if it goes bang they aren't gonna hang around.

I have a mossberg 835 pump. Same thing as a 500/590. I like it alot, eats about anything and can handle the 3.5' shells if i want. Like symbols said, you need to be comfortable with it.

The mossy's have the safety on top, easier for a lefty to use if you are one. You really cant go wrong with a 500/590 or an 870.

I have a short barrel 12 ga. pump and a Desert Eagle .44mag That I leave out. I'd be more inclined to use the shotgun with #4 buckshot should someone come calling. I live in a dense neighborhood and wouldn't want to cause any collateral damage, plus if you have kids you need to worry about a projectile that will not exit the intruder AND go through the wall that's why I lean toward buckshot or IF you miss you need a round that will quickly lose energy
