Shoulder buster

Never too early to think about Christmas, the boss(wife) asked what I want for Christmas, I told her I want to rebarrel my no 1. 45/70 tropical. I would really like to have either a 585 nyati or a 600 express. I have no use for it other than wanting one.

The no 1 is pretty scratched up and the forearm is rough, so it needs a total overhaul, I only paid $150 for it 5 years ago just for this purpose. I'm going to have ssk put a heat treated finish on it, just need to figure out a caliber to go with.

There's other cartridges out there that will break your collar bone that don't cost nearly as much as those two.

The cool factor of a No. 1 in .585 Nyati would be so far off the chart, that the chart may as well not even exist, though.

It's going to be one of those 2, period. I would really like a 700 nitro, but the frame won't handle it. Not to mention the stuff needed to reload.

I do own a breeding 500 express, so I understand broken collarbones, I'm just really wanting a single shot big brother. It's going to be an open sighted gun as well.

I just stumbled across this thread.
How's the project going?

Personally I love my #1's but I find they transfer recoil in a way that my face doesn't agree with.

But I loooove a good big bore project

Why not go with a 458 WINCHESTER MAGNUM, ammo will be less expensive than your other two choices

Already got a 70 super grade .458 bought it to match the .270 super grade.

I wound up going .600 nitro with satin chrome finish and AA black walnut Richards micro wood. I loaded 5 shells, wound up in a sling after the first shot. The gun wound up with a brake and a shock after that.

Must be one hell of a shoulder buster to put you in a sling
