Browning 30-06

My grandfather just gave me his browning 30-06, that was made in belgium. I know nothing about the rifle. I know you guys are much more informed than i am so i am hoping for some info. Ive heard about a-bolt and x-bolt but dont know the diffrence. How do i date it ect...

Bump.. some has to know somethin about this gun. Its been sitting in his closet for close to 30 years i want to strip it down and clean everything before i sight it in.

Is that what it is a 700? Any tips on stripping the bolt down? I want to clean every peice b4 firing

I never had any reason to strip it down. These guns are bullet proof. What are you shooting out of it?

Ive never fired it before but tge barrel and bolt are packed with dust. I couldnt even see the firimg pin umtill i blew the dust off

Never dropped the bolt out of mine. What rounds are you thinking of putting through it?

Probably just the regular remungton ammo from dicks. Is there somethin elts i should use?

Its a Browning A-bolt. Very very nice rifle. To remove the bolt slide it open and when you feel resistance at the back squeeze the trigger and the bolt will slide the rest of the way out. I use Winchester supreme elite ammo in mine. If you are unsure about the process for cleaning it go to Browning web site and down load the manual. They can also help you with the age by the serial #. Hope that helps!

Awsome thank you that is the kind of information i was looking for. I dated his a-5 light 12 to 1953 so im sure this one cant be too far off he got them both at the same time in exchange gor doing some work on a house.
