WTB AR: Suggestions?

I have $400 worth of Cabelas gift cards and want to buy a new gun. Was thinking about buying a pistol (1911) but considering current events thought it might be a better idea to go ahead and buy an AR style before I can't anymore. Don't have the cash to buy one just anywhere but my gift cards make it possible to get one at Cabelas.

So. Here is what they have. I definitely don't want to go over $1000 including using my gift cards ($600 in cash). What do you guys recommend?

I like the looks of the guns with the carry handle but is it really something worth worrying about just because I like the looks?

I kind of wish they had some camo versions.

Good luck. Every gun shop around here is sold out. One of my friends owns a gun shop in college station and he said they sold out of all their AR stuff Monday. If you can find one in the shelf somewhere you can't really be picky. And if you didn't have an order in a week ago for one, you probably won't be getting one. I know rock river arms is out of stock indefinitely. And magpul is only selling accessories to distributors.

I would go with an Armalite. I've always had great luck with them. If you don't want to spend any money on sights get a carry handle version. If so, look at trijicons new RX30 reflex, it's a great sight and performs well on my Armalite. The trijicon acog also looks great and is top of the line in terms of a low power scope. I have one on my Armalite 6.8 SPC and love it.

I got two lowers from essential arms thursday, you won't find many parts, much less a whole gun. Give essential a call maybe you can pick up a striped lower to build. Good luck.

I do not care what brand, as long as it is a mil spec AR, that means any part is interchangeable between guns. I am partial to the flat top A3 with the government profile barrel 16", and collapsible stock. I've had the heavy barrel, it's heavy. I dont care if the barrel is chrome lined, or all the other parts are chromed. It will last forever, anyways, and clean up fine. I really don't think the gas piston model is necessary either. At this point I would get what is readily available, you might be able to reconfigure it later. Maybe, times ticking.

Just called the closest Cabelas (2 1/2 hrs away) and they have none in stock.

If you can't get the AR, I'd grab any 1911 that you want, with the way the gov, is going, we won't be able to buy anything but single action guns soon.
