3", 4", 5" barrel .40?

Hi Guys,

I put a hand on a glock 23, 22, and XD in .40. I'm wondering about the barrel options. What will i notice different about a 3" compared to a 4" compared to a 5". Obviously 5" may be bordering excessive for carry but, what are the different firing characteristics of shorter/longer barrels? -Does the .40 lend itself well to particular barrel length for performance?

thanks!

The longer the barrel, the less recoil, and more accuracy. I carry a .40 3 inch for my concealed carry, and it's plenty accurate for what I need it to be.

I don't have a chronograph, but I've seen data that shows about a 50 fps gain for each inch of barrel.

i have a glock 35 (5 inch tactical/competition grade) .40 and Spring Tactical XD .40 Both are insanely accurate once you get used to them. Downside is they are more difficult for concealed carry due to the size, but I think the larger the gun the more accurate (at least easier it is to be accurate) the gun will be.

FYI, most shootings you will encounter during a situation will be within 10 yards. I do fine with my 3.5" barrel 45ACP at 10 yards
