You will be happy with the 10-22, have had one for 14 years without a lick of trouble, squirrels disagree though. Plus there are all kinds of goodies you can get for them to make it your own, most of which are inexpensive.

The Ruger 10-22 is hands down the single most popular .22LR rifle in history, and there is a reason for it...

I've got 2 of them... Another vote for the 10-22. If I were looking to buy a .22LR I wouldn't even look at anything else.

I can't help myself........my son has a 10/22 and we think it's a great rifle.

However it DOES NOT use CLIPS, it uses MAGAZINES.

You are absolutely correct Mike....

Kind of like "chipping" a 6.0

I'm with the rest, 10/22 is the way to go. I've had one for 8 or 9 years and love it. I just put a new stock, barrel, and scope on it cause I've always wanted the "target" version. My brother has one too and the only problems we've had are with the mags. Both of our stock mags didn't work when they were new. My dad as a Nylon 66 with a couple hundred thousand rounds threw it and it finally stopped being reliable. He currently has a tube fed, semi auto Marlin (stainless barrel & receiver, wood stock) & it's pretty accurate. My dad prefers the tube fed .22's. There are plenty of good options but the 10/22's are the most popular & there are tons of aftermarket goodies for them.

I am a Winchester guy. I have a few 69As and 2 52s. IMO you cant buy a better 22. FYI look for the ones with the grooved reciver.

To be honest, if you get a .22 LR and want to shoot cheap or middle-grade ammo through it, you will never be able to take full advantage of accuracy, so get anything. I have not met a .22 rifle of decent quality that is any more accurate than another from the factory.

Cheap bulk 500 packs of ammo will lead up the bore pretty fast and are inherently not very accurate. That paired with the fact that .22 LR accuracy, even in the best loads and rifles, deteriorates dramatically past 100 yds means you will likely not be shooting tacks at long range. Even light wind will change the POI.

I currently have a Ruger 10/22 and love it. I don't know about magazine quality, but I have over 10,000 rounds through one of my factory mags and it still works fine.
