i'll take a good look at the 10-22.

what's this Marlin Papoose that i've seen on the net....anyone ever use one?
My little bro has the marlin. Not as cool as the ruger 10-22. I have ruger 10-22, a norinco 22 bolt action long rifle, and a old school norinco pump 22. My fav for all around shooting and plinking is def the 10-22. the bolt has tremendous accuracy and the pump- well, its just kinda cool. for all around bang for your buck the 10-22 ruger is the isht.

the reason the marlin isnt as cool is because it doesnt have NEAR the aftermarket. Meaning your stuck with the stock clips. Hotlips makes a really cool clip for the 10-22 you can go "jungle" style with and they interlock together. I usually clip 3 together. that gives you 150 rounds. you just pop the dead 50 round clip out, flip the attached clips around so the other is facing upward, and pop it in and bam, another quick 50. Pretty affordable too.

!

Ruger 10-22. I've got 2. One has atleast 50,000 rounds thru it. Its got the original clip yet and works great. Plus I have 2 50 round clips.

how much more accurate is the bolt action?

i'm new to all this so, forgive any newb questions....

as far as 'bang for the buck'; for me, that's buying the right thing the first time, even if it is a little more expensive...as long as it lasts and does everything i'd like it to do.

i kinda liked the way the merlin broke down but, it seems that the 10/22 is more popular as far as parts/service etc....

The Nylon 66 is another old favorite. not as finicky with ammo as a 10-22. I have both and both are good guns. My favorite shooting .22 however, is my Savage Model 24-V I think. .22 over a .410 single shot. I'll pierce ears at 100 yds open sights with that gun. I think I could close my eyes, the bullets just go to the right place.

I been wanting a Ruger 10-22 forever. Just haven't done the deal yet. I've hot one and they are killer. I was firing bullet after bullet through a 3/4" hole in a sheet of plywod from about 75yards.

I have a Marlin model 60 that I bought used for $100.00 - I have put a bazillion rounds thru it - I usually buy a brick, and I put the entire brick thru it. It will hold 19 rounds in the tubular magazine, and rarely misfires. I think when it does it is the Remington Ammo I usually buy. It never misfires on Winchesters or Federals. (I buy the Remington ammo because it is cheap, and it is what Wal-Mart always has in stock).

Its the ammo. It happens to me pretty often with the Remington crap. The Federal is about the same price and I have never had misfire with them.
