Twin J racing's '71 Cutlass Project Thread

This Is my 71 Cutlass drag car. It has a 461 Olds BB Th350 and 10bolt 8.5 rear end. I got It when I was still in High School it had been sitting for five years I good friend got it and put it together and Raced it a few times. It ran 15.50 all day long all stock. I was looking for a 70-72 GTO or Le Mans but he made me a hell of a deal on it. So I got it from him and started to play with it. frist off it got a 455 then a roll bar and many outher toys but no pic on the computer. I raced and played with till The fall of 2002. Then I was put up in 2003 since my trany was smoked and I finshed the season with a friends pontiac motor. That was also when my twins were born. Then went on back burner for years. So 2011 I finaly got the parts together and get it done.

So that Kind of brings us to 2011 where this will start.

Putting new motor together.

Botom End: It is a stock crank, stock rods, Sealed Power L2323F30, BHJ harmonic balancer. and a WJ the wheel all balanced up.
Heads: J heads ported up, EGR filled up, SS milodon valves, and milled and taped for 7/16 rocker studs
Valve Train:Lunati cam #51805 lift at valve .563 duration at .050 244 avertised duration 304 lobe separation 110. 1.6 comp alum. rocker arms, and a Edelbrock timing chain
Victor Intake, Demon 850 carb, Taylor Thunder volt 8.2, and a MSD distributor and HVC coil.

Got the car out to start working on Putting the motor and trans in it

My son Driving

Motor Going in

Sitting In drive way

and Racing

Now that Brings us to this year. last year the car didn"t run the numbers I want it to so back out it came. Changed timing chain to a Cloyes Hex-A-Just chain, a two peace timming cover, and checked and a few thing.

Poshed up Rims this year

Changed My MSD box from a 6al To a 6 PLUS

Did my front Brakes with new wheel Cylnders since they were leaking

The fan club after round win

I pulled the intake today changing it from a victor to a torker see if that helps any. Also had the pass side lugs losen up and hit the wheel cylnder and bend the backing plate so I guess it"s time for disk brakes.

Look at the wheel cylnder n the pic

Took my intake off new one is at machine shop to have milled so it will fit right.

My new intake and the old one

And on the car I"m going to try to work on tomorrow

Got the motor back together and running

And started to convert to disk brakes

And some new parts

Well after a few days of vaction Got to spend some time with the cutlass yesterday but I for got to take pic. Finshed the brake converson. Put one of these in Amazon.com: Allstar ALL48025 Brake Proportioning Valve: Automotive. And hung my exhaust system so I can play on the street. Went to change oil and the parts store gave me the wrong filter so I"ll get the right one to day.

well Sun went good and bad. It went a new best time of 12.03 but fried my MSD box. My track raind out so I had trailed to another one twice as far a way. to make one pass.

I remounted the MSD in the car after a got a new one :blackeye: . Went racing last sunday ran 11.90 all day redlighted second round . but a good day all and all.

Went to my OLDS Powere race tyhis week end ran best of 11.86 in the good night air. The only work I"ve done to the car is add a ford style starter solenoid since it wanted to not start off and on. Pic from the olds week end

Its been a wile since I posted. Had the car out a few times still running 11.90"s all te time. I won the run for money at martin US 131. Well now its time to pull down for the winter.

Body
Fix all dents dings, and rust repaint. Lighten up door"s put new hood on.

Interior
Pull dash clean and dye black. Have all seat redone. New door panles and carpet. Maybe a head liner.

Engine
Pull out Change heads to my Edelbrock ones. Maybe go to 1.7 rockers. Dyno motor play with my different intakes and different headers I have.

May be more but that"s the plans now.

10-16
Put on new tunk

And started to pull motor

Got it ready for body shop.

Motor and trans out

Gutted and ready

The bumper fell off LOL

Even changed the tires

Motor back together and at dyno with new edelbrock heads

526 HP 602 LB to day on dyno

That's where I'm at now still waiting on body man.
