New project.
Chris (Desert Rat) has a 98 K3500 4X4 CCLB with a 454 and 4L80E. Last night we picked a 94 K3500 4X4 RCLB with a 6.5L Turbo Diesel and a 5 speed hand shaker. Chris's truck's engine is going south and the new truck has some problems of its own. So we are going to swap them. I pushed hard for a Cummins conv but the planets didnt line up right on that one.
If anyone has done this swap before I would love to hear your tips. I will post plenty of pics. |

The only bad thing is you are swapping a gas hog for a turd. Should be a pretty easy straight forward swap though

Sounds like a purty straight forward swap but I'm sure there'll be snags,...always is.
Only advice that I can give ya is to get a digital protractor and take a few reading some where on the block so's you get it set back at the same angle. I've rode in a few conversion trucks that had drive line vibration issues and the person that did the conversion had no clue as to why. Funny story,.....I was riding with one of these guys and mentioned it had a drive line vib,...He stop me in the middle of my sentience and said,.. "Yeah,..I knew I was going to have a vibration problem but when you go from 8 to 6 cylinders, there's not much you can do about it!" I just said "Yepper" and shut my mouth. ![]() ![]() ![]()
