Tonneau cover help

I have a LoRider tonneau cover built by Raider on a 99 xcab lb. I need to figure out if I can raise it up roughly 3/4" and still have it do the same thing. My new career has me hauling a tank in the back and it's roughly 1/2" above the bed rails. Any ideas??

cut a hole in the cover is there a way you could get a piece of aluminum stock from home depot and bolt the hinge to it and then bolt that to the back of the bed. then get some thicker rubber stripping to go around the back and sides.
