6.0 engine has hole in piston
I have a 2004 450 with only 43,000mi it has a service body with a crane on it. Its out of warranty. It has been idling rough and lost power. The dealer checked it out and said #3 cylinder is dead and a bad egr. They replaced the injector and egr valve. Test ran the truck and still same problem. The compression was low. At higher rpms the power seems to come up. Also the intercooler is leaking air. To go any futher the have to pull the cylinder head. I was told to do so the cab has to be removed from the frame. I would hate pay all the money to find out the engine is blown, or cost too much to repair. They said a new engine is between 13-14K. Any thoughts,
Thanks, Steve |

I had an 03 1 ton doing the same thing and it turned out to be a bent valve on the dead hole. A piece of carbon had come off and gotten into the valve and bent it. The cab does not have to come off although it does make things easier.
