Truck Won't Keep Running after Replace IDM
I've a 97 7.3L powerstroke. The truck was running fine till the week before when I was on the way home there was an accident on the highway. The traffic was jammed and my truck sat in line idling a lot and moved once a little slowly on the highway. All of sudden it felt losing power. I barely made home that night, and after that it wouldn't stay running after starting, die soon like starving for fuel. I called the diesel mechanic. He changed fuel filter, fuel pump, and ran the scanner through the engine, showed "Faulty IDM". It is an expensive part and I am not sure that is the problem, anyhow I ordered an used one which guaranteed to work or your money back. I put it on, started the truck, still the exactly the same thing! Engine will spin or even start and then died like out of fuel!
I'm frustrating cuz this is my working truck, and as everyone know, everything on this engine costs a lot...I'm looking for some ideas or suggestions from your guys. Thanks |

i just got done working on a truck that did the same thing. it ended up being the harness under the valve cover melted at the connection to the vavle cover gasket. i dont know if this is the solution for you but this is what i came across. good luck

Yes, I definitely will think that is a possibility. But what is the odd that the harness melted under both side valve cover? Since the engine dies completely, not one side dies the other running, I would not say it is the harness, but I'll check. Also, I just noticed when I crank the truck, none of the gauges coming on, show absolutely nothing at all.

I think this is happening to my truck. When you turn the key will the battery voltage gauge go back and forward and the wait to start light flicker.

When I turn the key, the voltage gauge will move, and wait to start light will be on and then off like normal, does not flicker. Thanks

BTW. My original IDM is a 100. The replacement one is a 110. Not sure if it matters since my mechanic told me they are all interchangable, the higher number the more power and the less fuel efficiency you get.
