Urgent: work truck wont stay running
2003 6.0 psd 223K miles:: I recently had a breakdown.. HPOP was replaced by ford and i was told that 2, 4, 5, 7 injectors were bad and #4 wasnt firing at all. I drove the truck 350 miles home....low on power...running like sh^& just to get home.
Im home now. I replaced all 8 injectors with 40hp upgrades from Pensicola Diesel. While i was digging in I also completely removed the EGR cooler, blocked off the up pipe, blocked off the EGR inlet in the intake manifold, and rerouted the coolant line. (all as outlined on this forum). The truck is all back together and the events following have me confused::: Cycled the key 4 times before attempting to start. Cranked for 3 solid 10 second intervals before she finally started. Was idling real rough then smoothed out a bit.... rpms fell off after about 30 seconds and she died. cranked for 10 seconds before it started again. gave it a bit of throttle, held it at about 1500 rpm for about 5 seconds..rpms fell off even with a bit of throttle and she died. Wouldnt restart right away, just cranked and cranked. I gave it about 5 minutes and it cranked for 5 seconds and started. Ran for about 10 seconds, enough to rev it a bit..rpms fell off and she died. I eventually ran the batteries down too far to keep trying, so i gave up. Im back inside researching what the problem could be and im coming up empty....... Complete EGR delete and 8 new injectors.... I double checked everything under the hood and its all okay, no leaks...just wont stay running Any Ideas??? Truck is finally fixed. Number 8 injector was stuck open, dumping all the fuel in the high pressure rail, thus killing the left bank.
Stage 1 injectors and no EGR made the truck an animal. I cant believe the difference in throttle response and accelleration. Dave |

Glad you got it working. You said the NEW injector from Pensicola Diesel was stuck open?

yeah, the new (remanufactured) was stuck open. The guys over at Pensicola Diesel are absolutely great to work with. I made a phone call and they overnighted a new injector at no cost to me. Thats how their service has been for me everytime i call them. No questions asked, no arguements, just problem solved.
