Restricted rpms, lots of smoke
Hello everyone. New guy here with some problems with a truck I bought 3 weeks ago. I had a 96 powerstroke years ago and sold it at 225000 miles. I then was the owner of a 93 dodge w/12valve which was sweet to work on but needed a comfortable 4 door so I am back in a ford with all ts glorious electronics. I am learning... but not quickly enough. I need this truck running so I can get back to the 14 other unfinished projects currently waiting for attention.
I have a 99 f250 123000miles. It starts and idles fine. There is alot of smoke(whitish grey) warm or cold. It has a superchip tuner. In the stock mode I cannot exceed 1200-1400 rpms and it dumps alot of smoke and diesel fumes. In hi-performance mode w/increased throttle it will allow rpms to increase enough to drive it but still dumps smoke and fumes. the #7 injector and wiring harness that side replaced(ran great for 600 miles) CPS replaced TPS checked within range icp unplugged no change no leaks Fuel pressure 60 psi new filters new oil harnesses disconnected equal performance on both sides No codes Matco scanner koeo test passed koer test passed cylinder contribution passed with exception #8 (before cps replcement). buzz test good connection good at idm fuses good intercooler boots good wastegate actuator sensor replaced There is no pressure in the red hose going to wastegate actuator. iwas told there should be pressure there. I don't know what else to check. Could bad fuel cause this? If an idm goes bad wouldn't some kind of code be available. Does anyone know what the superchip changes to allow this thing to run better in hi performance mode vs the other modes(its still bad but I can get it down the road)? I am at a loss here, any help is greatly appreciated. Last edited by swhite832; 01-11-2009 at 06:41 AM. Reason: more info |

Check the tube that runs from the exhaust manifold to the wastegate control sensor.
