Oil leak?!

I have an 03 6.0, it has developed an oil leak, a solid stream. Seems to be coming from the top rear left half of the engine. It is leaking from some sort of heat shielding/blanket? Any ideas what it could be. What am I looking at for repairs. Truck has 177,000 on it. The leak is strong enough to leave quite a puddle after idling for only a couple minutes.

I'm thinking that since the turbo is wrapped in the same type of material, the turbo is leaking? The leak is below the exhaust pipes, near the turbo inlet.

The turbo can only leak from two areas that I'm aware of. The turbo feed tube and the drain tube. If yours is an 03 it probably has that stainless steel braided feed tube. That piece has been updated to a solid piece and is available at diesel stores.

The turbo also has an updated drain tube. Those orange orings go bad from time to time, especially if you've disturbed the turbo during repairs. That way they recommend replacement each time you lift the turbo from the pedistal.

Other places that are problematic are the HPOP cover near the rear. Ford some how thought it was an awesome idea to make the back plate about 1/32 lower than the engine block. So what you have to do is add some RTV to your replacement gasket for the HPOP cover.

Other places that are common leaks are on the back plate, but your not going to get a stream from that just dripping.

Hope some of that info helps.
