I was on my way to Atlanta to the airport to go back overseas in the army and I just checked my oil and there was small metal pieces on my dipstick. Truck has 99k miles and it just had new head gaskets put on it before I bought it. Could I just drain the oil and get a new oil filter or do I need a short block? Hopefully it's pieces from the recent work but it could be anything in the engine failing now. If this is the case I'm putting a cummins in it

Get a sample kit from here Blackstone Labs

Do an oil change. Send them a sample and find out whats up. But yeah even after head gaskets there shouldnt be metal shavings in the oil
