95 skipping / going dead - sometimes - CPS??

I bought my 95 F250 Powerstroke new and have 180,000+ miles and love it, except for the past few weeks occasionally the engine will "skip" a couple of times and then run fine. Also, occasionally the engine will go dead, usually when rolling up to a stop, when I am not applying accelerator. Each time it goes dead, it will start right back up. Tried fuel treatment and then read about the CPS issue on these models. Do you think this problem with the CPS? The CPS had never been replaced. Does the computer store a code for CPS (no check engine light has come on). I am afraid it is going to stall at the wrong time and be dangerous. Your help is appreciated.

I have a 94 that done the same thing no codes some days it was fine and some days it wouldn't run 50 feet without skipping/ choking changed the cam position sensor and been running fine for over 70,000 miles now. I'd say that is a good place to start.

I appreciate your lightning quick reply. Am so panicked over the going dead part, I will probably go get one tomorrow from a dealer, and then buy a spare on ebay to keep in the glove box. Any idea what one would cost from a dealer?

Thanks, noticed "chip" in your signatures. Does this chip improve mileage? My 95 is a 2 wheel drive and I average around 19 mpg.

The chip I have is a custom tuned Tony Wildman chip which is the best for our year trucks, with an economy tune on it mileage will be improved
