Question Intermittant battery warning light

I have an 03 F350 6.0L powerstroke dually. My battery warning light keeps coming on intermittantly from 1 second up to 2 minutes. Sometimes it will go on and off over the period of an hour or so then I won't see it for long periods of time even a couple of days. Someone suggested diodes may be going bad in alternator?? Would that turn the light on and off intermittantly?? Someone else suggested that the alternator may have a "diode pack" that can be replaced rather than the entire alternator-anyone know whether this can be done?? Any trouble shooting suggestions would be appreciated.

alt output is below 13.5 or above 14.5 (something like that). If it's that random, check all the connections and get it tested on the truck and then bench test it. In a perfect world, they should test the same. They probably won't. If there is more than a 20% difference, replace it.

Also, have the batts checked OFF the truck.
