Oil Pressure Relief Valve

Took the day off of work today to replace the O-rings and gasket on my oil cooler which has sprung a nasty leak. Thought it would be an easy job, and it has been, but...

When I pulled the oil cooler, the pressure relief valve (I think thats what its called) popped out of the oil filter head and hopped across the floor. Now, the (relief valve) is in three pieces. The spring, the plunger and the valve.

How do I put this thing back together in the right order and reinstall the cooler without it popping out again? There is no obvious way for the plunger to fit into the valve or what way the valve goes back into the filter head.
