Water in cylinder Hydro or Cavitation 7.3IDI

Went to start felt like engine was locked up. An old timer said water in cylinder said roll truck in backing motion dump clutch in 3rd or 4th a couple times then try to start. I did this and truck started. idled rough for a couple of mins. Then ran fine. Coolant level real low and i noticed steam and water out exhaust pipe. After she warmed up all symptems went away. She runs like a champ. 164,000 dont want to start after hearing about bending rods and such. Could it be a head gasket or something way worse? Any advic would be helpful.
