Hey bud. If I were you I would just go ahead and do a complete EGR delete kit. They can be pretty pricey, but atleast you will not have to worry about the exact same thing happening to your truck again.

It is better to invest some more money now to completely fix the problem than to spend money on a band-aid IMO.

Sorry to hear about your problems. The EGR system on these trucks cause all kinds of problems. Mine burns coolant everyday. I can completely fill my overflow bottle and by the end of the day it will be almost completely empty. Had everything "pressure tested" and all was OK.

Also, you could do the work your self if you are mechanically inclinded. As mentioned before they sit on the top of the motor right below your turbo. I believe I heard somewhere that you can do the delete kit or replacement with just removing the turbo and not the intake manifold.

Sorry for the long post lol. Hope everything gets settled for ya. And if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks Pain. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, built motors before and a lot of stuff. Sounds like an idea. Would deleting the EGR stuff void the warranty, though?

It does lose coolant whenever I tow with it. Bobcat & trailer are pushing 12k lbs, and it feels like a lot for this truck. I usually tow with the F450.

I'm just pissed with the whole thing cause it's only 2yo with under 40k miles. I don't think I should have to touch it, but this is it's 4th trip to the dealer for warranty issues- 4wd went out, alternator, front end shimmys, now this. My previous Tundra had zero problems through 75k when I traded it for this pos.

I hear ya Kevin. Unfortunately the EGR delete WILL void the warranty. But IMO the EGR is responsible for alot of the problems these trucks have, coolant loss/puking, white smoke, power loss, bad oil coolers and the list goes on.

After deleting the EGR the only real problem that you should have to worry about with the motor itself would be headstuds.

The dealer called me regarding my truck on Thursday. They put a new oil cooler and egr cooler on. This did not fix the problem. Now they are saying that it will be mid week next week before I get mine back. They have to tear it down and replace the head gaskets.

If I were you I would invest the $400 for ARP headstuds and have your dealership install those instead of the OEM pieces. They will last a helluva lot longer and you will have the piece of mind knowing that you are studded.

Shouldn't they be able to check the head gaskets before replacing the other stuff? Sometimes it's difficult to know what's leaking where, but it seems like they would have to remove a lot of the same stuff and more. It would suck to get it all back together, then have to tear everything off again.

I hope they don't do the same thing with mine. It's already been a week and I want it back.

They should be able to do a compression test and a leak down test to check the pressure and balance.

when a 6.0 has head gasket problems coompression isnt low, it just builds pressure in the cooling system, as far as doing the egr cooler and oil coooler and then goin back in , the tech doesnt want to do it either , but thats the only way to know and thats the way ford wants it done, so if a tech wants to get paid he has to go by their rules, thats just the way it works

I have an 05 F350 SD 6.0 PS 4X4 with 75000 miles on it. A couple of days ago, it started blowing white smoke out of the exhaust. I checked the coolant resevoir and it was empty. Filled it and restarted to warm up temp, shut it off and was almost empty again. Of course I rev'd it to see if the smoke would go away; it didn't! At first I thought maybe a glow plug or injector problem but after reading this blog I am starting to think otherwise. If the EGR valve goes by itself, would it show these symptoms or is it pretty positive that that it could only be the EGR cooler. The oil is clean, with no coolant, and freshly changed (<100 miles). The motor runs pretty smoth as it always has but has a lot of smoke, or steam. I noticed that the ground under the ehaust tip was real moist. Also, when pulling about 9000 lbs of granite on a 28 foot dual axle trailer, from time to time, under heavy demand, there was a weird whine from under the hood. Could it be that I have a bad EGR cooler and with the noise, also a bad oil cooler? Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks.
