Dead no fuel 1/4 tank on guage

I have a 2004 f 250 3/4 ton ext cab . the truck died going down the road. I pulled the upper fuel filter out listened for the fuel pump to run sounded fine but the fuel filter would not fill (i pushed down on the center check also) fuel pump? sump screen? anything else

welcome phil... have you tried putting a little fuel in the bowl and seeing if it would start?

I read where the shower head pick-up in the tank sometimes breaks off. may want to check that out. the black thing on the left

That and there are two filters inside the white piece above the pickup. The tank lining can degrade and chips can clog the filters.
