Need Head Studs
Hey all, had my truck in today to check out an oil leak under warranty....Turns out my head gaskets are leaking, so will be getting that done under warranty
But even better than that, the dealer said that they would put in head studs for me.........![]() The question is: What exactly do I need to buy, and where is the best (read: cheapest) place to get 'em. Do I need to buy any other special parts? I'm going to have to relay the information to my wife so that she can help get them ordered , since I'm in Australia for the next two weeks. Thanks everyone....... |

you can just do the studs w/ stock gaskets or you can get the hypermax gaskets, i've had many people run them w/ stock gaskets and never have any problems.
OH and i do have them in stock ready to ship. kyle |

How many miles did you have when you brought it in to get the oil leak fixed? I have an oil leak also but dealers in my area suck. Last time I tried they told me the truck would be number 43 in line and that it would have to be there at least 3 weeks before they would look at it. Disgusting ain't it. I'm in Lafayette, LA.

Farmboys Diesel has the ARP studs cheapest I've found, give em a call. You could also go with H11s which are about a couple hundred bucks more, but they arent really necessary.

Extreme Diesel responded to my post, so I gave them the business. They sold the to me for about $490 to my door. Probably more expensive than FBD, but I'm half-way around the world on business, so I chose the hungry guy who was willing to help me out. Thanks XDP, delivered as promised.
As for the oil leak, I bought the truck with 87,000 miles on it. I didn't have anything dripping on the ground, but was pretty nervous about the head gaskets because I didn't have the OASIS report in hand at the time. I was just looking around under the truck one day and pulled the inspection cover where the torque converter bolts to the flex plate and saw that it was fairly wet. I figured I'd wait to take it in until I had a couple of other issues to work on and as it turns out the truck was running a little rougher than I thought it should when cold so I took it in to have them check the injectors. I asked them to look at the oil leak while it was in, and they told me that the head gaskets were leaking. I wasn't blowing out the coolant resevoir or smoking, just the oil leak. I talked to the master diesel tech and he told me that he has seen four other trucks in the last month with the problem, including mine which had the head gaskets and one head replaced under warranty at 84,000 miles. My guess is that the other Ford dealership f'd up the repair the first time. They told me that they would install the studs for me because my truck was about out of warranty and the likelihood of them having to do the work again was nil (i.e. they didn't want there to be any question as to whether the studs caused any subsequent failure). However they want to justify it, I'm happy.......... Keep looking for a good dealer, they are out there and I'm sure that there is one close to you. |

IMO, you made a wise decision to use an org. sponsor to get your parts. It is a lot more comforting for me to know that when I'm buying these kind of things that they will be delivered as promised. (Especially when you can't be there) Congrats on getting the HG's done under warranty!
