04 F350 6.0L grey smoke???
Hi, I have a 2004 F-350 with 6.0L Powerstroke. A couple of days ago I noticed a continuous grey smoke coming from the exhaust (smells really rich). It does it all the time but get etremely bad when I first take off or after letting off on the pedal and accelerating again.(while driving at a constant speed the smoke seams to almost go away). Just before I noticed the grey smoke the heat in my truck quit working at idle but would warm again at load. So I checked my coolant level and it was down about a gallon (3.5 to 4 litres I'm Canadian)
I topped it up and a day or two later the grey smoke started. the oil level is fine and the coolant has not dropped again and has no signs of oil in it ( that I can tell anyways). Truck runs and idles perfect. The only thing I noticed that would be different is the really cold starts below 0 F and -20 C(again Canadian) the truck seems to start and run alot quiter when cold than it did before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Possible coolant leak into the cylinders. When you say rich is it like a sweet smell or smell like coolant?

Yeah usually a coolant leak will blow white smoke. Hmm I would try to pull any codes. How does it run otherwise? Could be an inector problem.

I don't have a way of pulling codes. All gauges read fine, truck runs and idles fine. All fluid levels are fine now(after adding coolant)

Hmm Im no expert especially on the 6.0. Keep an eye on the coolant if it drops again I would say it could be your egr valve possibly also. One of the techs will see this and give you some good advice

Maybe its a gumed up EGR Valve and a bad EGR cooler?
