Idlers,belts and such

How much trouble have you guys had with idlers? Mine seem to be good and snug, but I looked at them anyway this evening while I had everything else tore apart. Fan clutch bearing is making noise, so I guess I need to replace it.
This isn't really a 911 situation, so if this thread gets moved I understand.

Oil and fuel filter changes is about all I've had to do
Did replace the cam sensor

Other than the fact that a van is CIB to work on, this is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. Also my first diesel. And yes, I make and burn my own fuel.

are you sure its the fan clutch bearing?? ive seen TONS of water pumps go bad on 90-160k 7.3's.....its a very common failure..

I removed the air filter housing and let the tension off the belt and the water pump is TIGHT. I have motion in the fan only. Did I use the word "and" enough times? All the idlers, alternator, A/C Comp, PS pump and such seem to be good. I pried gentlty with a bar and the only place that moves is the fan. Worst part is the fact I don't really have time to mess with it right now.

Go figure.

well i have seen fan clutch's make noise...but the reason i asked the above is because that is the least common...

if the engine is running at normal temp....and the belt doesnt seem in any dire need of replacement...you are probably OK to drive it for a while...
