Gray smoke and less power?

Possibly big problem. Truck used to bellow out black smoke, now its gray. Any thoughts? No water in oil or vice versa. No excessive blow-by eather

pull the intake horn off and check the turbo. Grab onto the compressor wheel shaft and pull in and push out....see if you have any movement........sounds to me like its blue smoke from a failing turbo..

Jack up truck 24" in rear and pressure test cooling system, egr cooler might be leaking. If it is, coolant will collect at front of intake.

Thanks for the input. I have noticed small amounts of blue smoke. But also white smoke sometimes at cold start up. But i didn't notice an egr system. If it was there i would have tried to bypass it. Spent gas just don't seem right in the intake

I had that problem a couple times. You may try changing the Cam Position Sensor. It fixed mine both times. I guess the timing would be off a touch and I would go from bellowing out black smoke to bellowing out gray smoke, especially if I had a load. Hope this helps..

I agree. This should be your first step.
