Hello all
New to this forum but have been trying to research my problem but I just can figure it out so here goes…
I have a 1999 F350 with the 7.3.
I was driving down the interstate about 75 and all of a sudden the ticking of the injectors and normal diesel sound just got a lot louder, like something had broke. I still had oil pressure and made boost and nothing was hot. I pulled over and opened up the hood and the ticking sound was up high on the passenger side and there was a lot of smoke coming from the back of the engine like it might be turbo.
Since it was dark out it was hard to see so I didn’t do much more investigating. The next day I got it towed,

by a Cummins back to town, how embarrassing my 1 ton dually behind the little dodge. Any way after looking at it, it appears there is some oil on the right side up pipe, leaking from the joint at the turbo flange. I pulled the vale covers and there was nothing visible broken. I also pulled the injectors to inspect and didn’t see anything noticeable wrong. There doesn’t seem to be any shaft play in the turbo, so I just dont know. I does seem like there is more oil in the right rear cylinder, after I pulled the injectors, so could it have been bag injector o-rings, they did look a little hard on that injector?
A couple other things:
I tried to start it after we sat on the rode for a while and it just clicked like it was hydro-locked, so I didn’t try anymore. The next day before I loaded it, it fired and smoke a lot, but I didn’t notice the clicking sound so much, but I only ran it for about 20 sec.
I also pressurized the cooling system and no cracked cups or leaks that I can see.
So any ideas or what to check now??? Thank for the help guys and great forum!
