1997 CA F350 7.3 No WTS, Fuses good
This morning I was leaving for work when I noticed the WTS light was on longer than normal. Usually 3-5 sec, today was closer to 20 before I started to crank. It didnt fire, and it ALWAYS had. Turned off, then back to IGN, and now there is no WTS light. Took the back up car to work, came home, and got to checking things. 1. ALL fuses are good. Checked 22 and 9 multiple times and changed them anyway. 2. Unplugged the fuel bowl heater just in case, still no light or start. 3. Checked my chip, nice and tight, unplugged it anyway. 4. Checked oil level, OK. 5. Checked Battery Voltage. 12.5V, Hooked up a charger just in case, no start. 6. Switched Relays around, no change. 7. Checked voltage at GPR. 12.5 at battery side. IGN switched on I have battery voltage on BOTH small wires, and still none on the GP/Shunted side. I used a set of jumper cables to jump across the terminals, but still no difference in cranking. 8. Tried to read for codes with my AutoEnginuity but it wont connect to the truck, possibly no connection at DLC? Im not sure what my next step should be, Im frustrated right now and going to take a break, hopefully you guys have some more ideas that DONT start with PCM....lol Thanks!

Okay this morning I tried ether...
It actually tries to fire, sounds like crap, but tries. I drained the fuel bowl, removed the filter just in case, and cranked it to see how long it takes to fill... It does take a little time, maybe a minute of on and off cranking. Im not sure how long it should take. There is only a mechanical lift pump, which was replaced maybe 1.5 years ago. My fuel pressure gauge is on the way, so Ill be able to test more accuratly later this afternoon. Any other ideas? Im still lost guys. Thanks |

Okay, more and more testing.
Electrical, thru connector C138, I have 12V at pin 1 on the engine side of the plug, that is the only pin with any reading. On the PCM relay, I have battery voltage on 30 with the Maxi fuse 9 plugged in, HOWEVER, I also have a random voltage of 2.49V on the "switched" 85 side of the relay. I also have this same 2.49V on the computer controlled side of the IDM relay. According to the picture, these are PCM pins 70 and 71. When I unplug the connector C138 both 70 and 71 go blank, as I believe they should be all the time. Ive unplugged the IPR, the GPR and the fuel bowl heater as those are the only items I see that relate. Come on guys, give me something. I hate to have to have it towed to the Stealership...Im at wits end!

what is your ambient temp? try plugging it in. if it fires on ether good chance your gps are not working.
did you check voltage on gp supply side of relay whrn wait to start light is on? |

pull relay 2 out completely, see if your WTS returns. that is the relay that controls the IDM, no IDM power no start. my 97 will periodically get a bug in its @ss and give me no WTS light, disconnect the IDM and reconnect it and it runs normally

1. Ambient air temp at the time was close to 80 degrees.
2. I unplugged Relay #2 and still had to WTS light on the dash. 3. Previously when I had checked wiring at the GPR, I had 12V on both "control" sides on the relay. 12v on the battery side, but nothing coming on the glow plug side. I used jumped cables and jumped it to try and force it to work, but still no start, no cough sputter or anything. 4.There was also no white smoke coming out of the exhaust while cranking the engine. |

No WTS, no communication with your AE, your computer sounds like it's not running. Could be a connection, fuse, or it's just $hit-the-bed
