'96 F-350 Just Died
I was coming home from camp in WV pulling a trailer and truck just died.
Not CPS, not fuel related, not fuse related. Didn't have my computer with me so i stopped at that point. Had truck towed to local garage and first they said the idm was bad then they said I had 2 injectors starting to go bad. I told them I don't pay to guess and to stop. I am having truck brought back to NC. I just don't trust garages. The truck has over 265k miles on her and I have maintained her very well. Any ideas where to start? Sounds like you did the right thing getting your truck away from them, they don't sound like they really knew these engines (was it injector 3 & 8 they thought they would replace?)
![]() BUT, I'd be tempted to give them the benefit of the doubt and start with testing the IDM... Do you have the equipment to pull IDM codes and perform a "Buzz Test" to let the IDM create fault codes? If so, see what the gives you maybe.... |

I can't remember which ones they said. A wrecker is going to pick it up Tuesday and bring it back and put it in my garage. I have to work Wed and Thurs so I won't get to look at it till Fri.
I'm thinking about not only getting to bottom of the problem but also doing some major PM on her. Think I will change LPOP, go ahead and do injectors, thoroughly inspect wiring harness, and service or change IPR. Depends on baseline verification from my AE. I go to camp at least once a month, my camp is way back off the beaten path in WV and I can't afford to have the ole girl lay down on me again. |

Before you spend the money swap the IDM relay with the blower motor relay, see if that gets her back up and going.
