6.0 engine whistle and whine
Leaving for a trip this weekend and need to tow my car. I brought it in to my mechanic and he said the sound I was hearing was it was in need of the bullet proof EGR . 2500 bucks later it is still doing the same thing. It only happens going up a large hill under full power with a 9000lb trailer. No difference in temps on any of the gauges. No other real symptoms. Any thoughts ? Thanks.

Sounds like you might have a torn CAC tube boot or maybe even a cracked intercooler

Is there any noticeable loss of power during this? What year truck?

2006. Yes it really struggles going up a hill.

This is off topic but 2500 for egr delete is crazy!

My mistake. It is the bullet proof egr not the delete. oil cooler was changed, Seals, screens and o rings changed, EGR passages cleaned. oil change and lube done too.
Still sound ridiculous ? This is my first diesel truck so I hope I can trust these guys. |

The prior owner did the studs. I also have records that he replaced the EGR under waranty but it was replaced with the same Ford part. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
I am taking my mechanic for a ride today with my trailer on the truck so I can duplicate the noise. Hopefully we'll have an answer. If I didn't know the EGR needed to be replaced anyway at some point I'd be pretty pissed off that I spent that much money to fix this noise only to have it do nothing. |

Sounds like the flex section in either your up-pipe or y-pipe has split. I would also double check your CAC boots and intercooler piping to ensure those are not split or torn.

Boost leak or exhaust leak most likely. I have used an evap emissions smoke machine to find air leaks. Seems to be the fastest way to find boost leaks if thats the issue.
