6.0 will not even turn over.

I have a 6.0 liter 06 F350. While in the back country yesterday it just died. Has power but will not even turn over. Need help diagnosing the problem. The check wrench is on, when i go to turn it over i just get silence.

Thanks,

Don

Was there excessive smoke or anything else that happened before it died? Could be hydro locked? Did it make any funny noises before it shut down?

BC Diesel Truck Repair

So not even clicking?

Can you hear it trying to crank-over but not actually cranking?

Is the starter even attempting to engage?

Hydro locked?

Well I'm having the same issue. Truck died going down the road and won't even turn over. I've searched the forum....but just ran into a lot of dead threads. Hoping to get an answer out of this one. It seems to happen to a lot of people....but no one has posted what the problem was.

Have full power at the batteries, just hear the relays clicking under the dash, no sounds coming from the starter, scanner won't connect with the pcm.... any help with diagnosing would be greatly appreciated...

Dave

Try to bar the engine over by hand, if it turns over bump the starter with a momentary switch with key on. That should narrow down the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've already jumped the starter relay and the motor had no problems cranking. I did that just to make sure that the motor wasn't locked up. I've also checked the fuseable links coming off the passenger side battery and they're all good. I've also checked all the fuses. I'm unfamiliar with how to check relays though. By the way everything has acted...I would think that the ignition switch might be bad....but am unsure if that would cause the truck to shut down. The switch is obviously supplying power to the fuse panel...but am unsure if there's more to it. Any other suggestions out there. I really am new to the Powerstroke world.... well the ford world for that matter.

any after market alarms or disabling devices, remote start installed? Trucks equipped with PATS (Passive Anti Theft System)... the fat key not the skinny type?

If not, more likely a bad harness, when at idle in the driveway start to move around/aggravate the main harnesses, if the truck shuts off then your pin point testing or replacing harnesses, I recommend replacing.

Unplug the fan connector and see what happens.

Sorry for not updating.....

But yea....got it all figured out. Ended up being a fuse/fuses that had popped due to the fan connector retainer being broken and allowing the fan to grab hold of the wiring and chewing it all up. Basically shorted out the fuses. Then once I replaced the fuses....my dumb *** ended up misplacing the starter fuse which is why it never would start. Didn't figure that out until I chased the complete harness and came across it. Yes I feel like a complete idiot ....but thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
