Bed Pan Oil Leak

I noticed a oil on the oil pan of my truck (2006 6.0L). I took it to the dealer and after a week my service guy called to tell me that my BED PAN was leaking and that they would need to keep my truck for two weeks because they had to remove the entire engine in order to fix it. The bed pan is sandwiched between the block and the oil pan. Has any one ever hear of this happening, and what exactly is the BED PAN for? Please help.

P.S. I told them not to do anything and went down to pick up the truck.

on this engine, the crankshaft is bolted to a removable section of the block. i don' t think that is the proper term for it, but i am sure that' s what they are talking about

I don't have a 6.0 but i've heard of this happening on some of the 05-07 6.0's. I think there are a few more threads on here about it. And on everyone of em they had to pull the motor to fix the leak. Kinda sucks for 6.0 owners, i thought they would have fixed all their problems after 04. Both of my parents have 2005 6.0's and they haven't had any leaks like that yet and hopefully they won't:whistle: Good luck with your truck. I'm sure a 6.0 techie will be along here to explain some more about the bed pan for ya!
