I hate shotgun mechanics alsmost as much as I hate shotgun doctors! I always tell them, "If you don't know what's wrong, figure it out before you start changing stuff or I will find someone who does know what's wrong." I'm the only one allowed to do that with my truck. After all, they are getting paid to know what's wrong.

SO they kept your truck, and banned you from the property? Sounds to me like they just stole your truck. I hope you get it back soon. Sorry to hear about all this. Make sure your lawyer sues for the cost...and lawyer fees!!! And damages...(Money lost while they were working on your truck.)

12K is usually the out the door price. I knew a guy that drove his 220,000 mile 7.3 with a piston in the pan and one just burned out to a shop and the shop fixed just the 2 cylinders and the guy was on his way. He got an exhaust and programmer after it got rebuilt and haven't had one problem yet.

Sounds like it'd be better to just get a rebuilt engine. Quicker and less hassle than doing it yourself. But hey, i'm the drunk one here so maybe I'm reading it differently.

just stearted reading your thread..sounds like you took your rig to Allegheny Ford in Pittsburgh. if you're still having probs with it, and you're within driving/towing distance, get it down to Scott (scuffy) at Trucks unlimited in Winston-Salem, NC. He'll get er fixed right, the first time. Scott's an honest to god mechanic who actually KNOWS what he's doing!
