Chug bug!
Well my trucks got a problem. Sporadically it idles funny, will lurch or bump and then smooths back out. While driving it will "Chug" and will go from having tons of power and tons of smoke to not getting out of its own way and no smoke whatsoever. There is a code being thrown but I'll check that tonight. I'm calling Marc tonight and will get with him about it but maybe someone will have the same problem in the future and can benefit from this post and my smokey video's!

Well here is the result fella's.
CODES Black = Known/Normal/non-issue Red = New P1211 - ICP above/below desired P1280 - ICP too P1249 - Wastegate inaccurate reading P0541 - AIH P0478 - EBPV high input P0720 - Insufficient input from output shaft speed sensor Marc explained to me on the phone that THe P0478 code was my issue. A small buildup of soot in my EBPV tube that comes from the exhaust manifold had impaired the backpressure reading which ultimately resulted in a dump of fuel into the cylinder @ any rpm when accelerating. This would also explain why my truck smokes so much with just a 10k mod. He wasn't too concerned about the other code unless it gets repeated and since I'm saving for my tranny anyway decided not to worry about it. So there, easy fix, took me 15 minutes and a cut knuckle later it was complete. Here is a picture of the tube and the soot that came out of it! ![]() Enjoy! |

Oh yes, the cleaning of this tube improved throttle responsivness. It did not make it faster, actually I feel like it made it slower (maybe the lack of the fuel dump now?), but the throttle response is more linear rather then jerky.

whats the EBPV tube's function?

The tube brings the backpressure from the exhaust manifold to the EBPV sensor...
It's just a solid tube that allows the sensor to be located elsewhere besides on the exhaust, probably has something to do with heat. |
