Exclamation Help!! Stuck In Cuernavaca Mexico

i was comming in from the outback when the engine sturred and died. upon closer observation i realized that the wiring harness on top of the engine had a short and that the insulation had been melted. with the help of a local "mecanico electo automotrice" we were able to retape this mini harness and reinstall it. the truck finally started and with a little more twinking it made it the last 60 miles before dieing 3 blocks from home. let me mention that the week previous the vacume switch sensor was replaced with a look a like by the local mechanic that possibly contributed to the short because of it's polarity/ values. i was able to get and install the original vac swtch sens only to find that another sensor had been stepped on and broken, the EGR pressure valve sensor which is not available from the main Mexico City plant BUT does have a price of $175. i ask the following: could the short have caused damage to other sensitive parts, should i have a code reader, how can i get the schematics/blow ups for parts.what parts have to be original FORD and what can be purchased at good auto parts stores. anybody out there?

Unfortunately I can't do much to help you along with your problem, I'll leave that to one of the techs. Just wanted to let you know your appeal for help is heard and welcome you to the site. Also I'm sure it would be helpful to the guys who read your problem if you'd let them know what year your truck is, and specs on your truck, any mods done, etc.
