99 7.3L hard start, no power
Hey,
I finally solved my dead battery issue but I still have an underlying issue. My 99 7.3L with 267,000 doesn't start unless it's been sprayed with starting fluid. It doesn't matter if it's in the 40's or -40. If it's been run for hours or a cold start. As soon as I shut it off it doesnt want to start. I can crank intermittently for 5-10 minutes then sometimes it starts. When it is running it sometimes has an erratic idle, but always has very poor throttle response and it is so gutless I can't even burn the tires on SAND! I've replaced the cam sensor with a Ford part, new fuel filters, fuses, relays, new air filter, oil filter, oil, a bottle of diesel 911. When its cold it has a minor blue smoke cloud, when it warms up there's almost none. There is also oil residue in the intake piping. I have no idea what to do and I don't want to throw money at parts that aren't the problem. The closest dealer/shop is 35 miles away. |

I've had hard start issues too. I"d check glow plugs first. Unplug your UVC connectors and probe them out with a multimeter. I believe outer pins (2 front, 2 rear) connect to the glow plugs. should be like 2 to 6 ohms. Have you had codes pulled? If there are some ICP codes, might try pulling the ICP sensor connector and see if that helps. else it may be HPOP.

I've got the valve covers off right now. There is and intermittent code light however my port will not read. I haven't tested the ICP yet. The HPOP says remanufactured on it so it appears to be newer. I have the UVC unplugged I will test them tonight.
