Fuel Contamination or Poor Water Separator

I have recently suffered $4000 damage to my fuel system due to water getting past my separator. My insurance claim was denied, stating that it is a maintenance or mechanical failure. I recently found out that Ford is now recommending I drain my water separator every 30 days (This is no minor objective) and Dodge recommending every fill-up. I have changed both my separator and filter every other oil change. I realize that the separator is designed to remove a "normal" amount of water from the system and that if overloaded will pass water into the injector system. I guess the point of all this is the question, has anyone else out there had a similar issue even when you religiously change your water separator? Has Ford poorly designed the separator on the 6.0?
