'05 6.0 Ambulance KNOCKING and SMOKE
The crew called me downstairs after they got back from a transfer......
our 2005 E-450 with a 6.0L and 70,000 miles was knocking BAAAAAAAD. loud heavy knock thats slow and speeds up with the engine speed. when you start it blow BLACK smoke that turns to white/grey. blows TONS of smoke even when idleing. it idles ROUGH. Oil level is good, pulled oil cap and started it, no blow by, coolant is not milky or bubbley when running. smoke smells like mineral oil, unburnt diesel? im thinking injector problem? if it was a bearing or rod id expect blowby and no smoke? we're gonna take to ford dealer in AM but we'd like to know whats wrong ASAP. THANKS |

Sounds like an injector is leaking. If it dumps too much fuel that would cause a knock and possible damage. I would tow it to the dealer if possible.
