Glow Plug Help !!!
Evening - Have a 1996 F250 7.3L that doesn't start up when cold. Just get a large white smoke cloud. However if I plug the truck in over night it starts right up (no white smoke or very little). I ordered 8 new Bosch glow plugs, but am a little hesitant on if I should use them and if glow plugs are the right place to start. New it everything diesel so I appreciate any help or guidance.

GPR ? Is that the glow plug relay ~ trying to educate myself as I go. The truck as just shy of 250,000 miles. As far as I know it has always been in Texas, but I will be driving it in Chicago. Right now it is in Seattle and when the temp drops below 40 degrees if it isn't plug in, it wont start. So looking into what I should do before taking it into 20 degree weather.
I bought 8 new Bosch glow plugs but have read that they are junk ? Also if you all know of what else I should replace I am appreciative of what you could pass on to a newbie !! |

it could be your glow plug wires are melted where they come through the valve cover gasket. had this happen to me a couple of times.

bosh is junk... take em back, buy motorcraft from ford. I know there pricey, but worth it. Your correct with GPR. After finding its bad, or not... I'd order a Stansor Relay....use the search .... do some reading on where you can get it and the exact part #. I ordered mine thru mouser electronics. Even after paying 2 day shipping...I came out a $1 ahead of the dealer cost for a stock GPR....

Motorcraft plugs
I just bought a set from Yocum Ford in PA via thier internet sales department, paid $10.33 each, list $24.95. Took 3 days to get them in my hands in NH.
