engine missing and blue smoke!

Hey all,

My brother is using my truck and he just called me. It told me it is letting some blue smoke out (all rpm range) and it is starting to miss at low rpm's.
Oil light came on when at idle, but goes away once it revs up.

He put some oil in it and it went away, for now.

Does this sound like a case of low oil levels? I know it is ok b/c it will shut down before any major damage is done, but will it star puffing blue smoke when it gets low, or is that soming going out??????

Just want to know before I head out to meet him on the road... he is about 2 hours north of me right now!!!!

pull fuel filter and check for oil.....

sure if it got low enough to trip the light then it can affect how its running. the 7.3 injectors are actuated off high pressure oil. so if there is no oil to pressurized and send to the intensifer pistion in the injectors it will miss. if it was that low, i would be checking for an oil leak.

for oil leaks, it is leaking slowly out of the dipstick bung, unless it just let loose on my brother today!!! I always check the oil everyday before I fire it up. Before, it lost about 2 qts every week. If there is oil in the fuel filter, what would that be??

most likely an injector cup or cracked cylinder head.

Hey, my bro called.

He got to a place to get oil, topped it off and it is running fine, no smoke, no misses, but it is leaking more!!!! He says he can make it back with no problems, the leak is not pouring out, but just fast enough to make a puddle the size of 2 half dollars when left running for 10-20 minutes.

looks like i might just have to replace the oil pan sooner than I thought.

Got the truck in the shop tonight, and fown the turbo bolts worked out. I took them out by hand!!!! Have new orings on the way for turbo and pedisal.
While I have everything apart, I am getting a hpop crossover line put in!!!!

When the turbo was out, I looked at it, and I have a banks 1.0 housing. Not sure if that is good or not, but everyone seams to like the 1.0's....

I will keep an update when I get more done.
