Running out of diesel in 7.3 idi

how do i get motor to pick the diesel back up

I've used an electric fuel pump to pull the diesel from the tank as high as I could go in the fuel system. Then it's just a matter of cracking the injector lines open to let the injection pump do it's thing. After you get fuel out of the injector lines, tighten them back up and start it. It may run rough after it starts, but it will clear out. Be prepared to jump start the truck, you will drain the batteries doing this.
