I need some HELP.
I have a '99 7.3 that for the most part has giving me good service. Sometime after 100 thousand it let me down and it was the injector control mod ( the brain under the driver side wheelwell )That time it just died and would not crank back. Two or three years later on a trip, one morning it cranked but would die as soon as I excellorated, Would recrank but would die if I tried to run above an idle. Was told to replace the CPS as that was the most likely. I did but that did not fix it. Someone asked if I had checked the oil level. I said, just had it changed last evening, should be fine. Well I checked and they had not put near enough in it. Something like half enough. Oil fixed it.
So now at 270 thousand I'm having problems again. This time it will crank and run fine at times, but if I shut it off the next time it may crank and shut down as if I turned the key off, then recranking starts it in limp mode where it runs but only at an idle. I never know when I shut it down weather it will crank back. No smoke, it either cranks and runs fine or it is hard to crank and runs at idle with on power. I had had it serviced a day or two before so I checked the oil level first. It is fine.
So far I've replaced the CPS ( thought this time that would be my problem)
still failed, I replaced the injector control mod ( I figured another 170,000 that could be it ). I drove 250 miles home made several stops, no problem, thought I had it fixed. Yesterday drove 17 miles to to town, made 2 stops no problem then stopped again and recranked ( barely ) in limp mode. Drove home at 25-30 mph with my tail draging. I've got to make an extended 2,000+ mile trip this week and no truck. Any ideas???
