I was looking around in the valley to determine where a fuel leak is comming from when I stumbled upon a problem. The connector for the IPR looked like it had been melted or skinned alive. It has been done evidently for some time as the wires were bare back about 2 inches and the wire loom had melted. The connector is the same type as the ones under the valve covers to the injectors. So I took out my old spare parts box and spliced another good connector to the wires. My question is, "if the two wires were touching, which they probably had been for some time, do I need to get another IPR and other stuff? Truck seems to run alright.

ipr valve should be fine, being that the ipr valve ground circuit is ground controlled through the ecm. i've had many trucks come in with that problem, and it's just splice and send the truck on it's way.
